Capturing engine

The IpTracer capturing engine is a leighwight software installed on the mobile device. Once the capturing process is started via the user interface, the engine stores the entire IP traffic in a measurment file on the mobile device. After the measurent is stopped the file can be sent to a PC for post processing.

Supported devices

Basically every S60 3rd Edition & 5th Edition (Symbian 9.x) Nokia device is supported. A full list is available here.

IpTracerBridge

IpTracerBridge runs on a PC and allows you to live capture the IP traffic transmitted on the mobile device. The mobile device is connected to the PC via a USB cable or a Bluetooth connection and has installed the IpTracer capturing engine.

Benefits of this solution:

• Minimal overhead generated on the mobile device.
• Captured packets must not be stored in the memory of the mobile device.
• Allows long-lasting measurements.
• Realtime capturing instead of uploading the measurent file to the PC and import it to the protocol analyser software.

Post processing

The most used post-processing software for network protocol analysis is Wireshark (formerly known as Ethereal). Our software has been testet with Wireshark.
